The Trinity

Icon with silver repoussé cover
Church of San Giorgio dei Greci, Venice, Italy

This is an Orthodox version of the Latin iconographic type that puts the Son at the right hand of the Father. In the Orthodox variants, the dove is enclosed in a geometric frame, unlike the Latin type where rays from the dove reach out to the Son and Father. Also different from the Latin versions is the more frontal arrangement of the Father and Son and the book (rather than a cross) in the Son's hand.
